A to Z Challenge: T is for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Movie: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Overall Rating: 4 / 5

General Impression: Loved it!

As far as reboots of a franchise go, this isn't the best, but it's up there. And funny that two awesome reboots happened with the Michael Bay and Megan Fox team (after they managed to put their strife behind them...).

The turtle brothers were well voice casted, and I liked that the different personalities were maintained with the reboot. Even if a little exaggerated at times. The haphazard costuming of each brother kind of accentuated each personality but I was most pleased to see April O'Neil's signature jacket kept in the movie but also get a realistic update.

Say what you will about Megan Fox, I think she was well cast in this movie. I also liked the increased depth of character and plot points she was given: a struggling journalist instead of an already successful one. It was nice to see Whoopi Goldberg as well the lady boss, but the character Vern Fenwick annoyed me. He had no real purpose but to pursue April and be her shoulder to cry on. Which would have been fine if the story had left him at that, instead there was forced chemistry between them when it was clear April just wanted to be one of the guys and hang out with the turtle brothers.

Can't say I blame her.

The CGI was amazing, even though some of the fight sequences were contrived. Of course, they're teenage MUTANT and NINJA turtles so you would expect a bit of outrageous stunts. But definitely worth watching if you were a fan of the FIRST Ninja Turtles movie... You know which one I'm talking about:

  2. I liked the reboot as well. The story line was a bit cliche, but the action was good and I didn't really care. I loved the turtles costumes and how they gave them a Japanese feel to them.

    1. The costumes were definitely more individualized than they have been in the past.
